Two people crossing a street in City Heights suffered serious injuries Saturday evening when they were struck by a car, San Diego police said.

The collision occurred shortly after 5 p.m. near the intersection of 42nd Street and Orange Avenue, police said. A 43-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man were walking in a crosswalk, crossing Orange from north to south, when they were struck by a 2017 Hyundai Elantra.

The driver, a 19-year-old woman, collided with the two as she tried to make a left turn from north 42nd Street onto Orange, police said. She stopped after the collision.

The female pedestrian suffered a broken pelvis and had pain in her legs and back, police said. The man suffered head injuries and neck pain, officials said.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
