LOS ANGELES — Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner were found dead in their Southern California home Sunday night in what police are describing as an apparent homicide, according to multiple media reports

A spokesperson for the Reiner family confirmed the deaths Sunday evening.

A family member is being questioned by investigators in connection with the couple’s death, the Associated Press reported.

The LAPD described the deaths as a “death investigation” in a press conference Sunday night. Robbery Homicide Division detectives are on scene investigating. No one is in custody and police do not have any suspect information, but the area is safe, police said in a press conference Sunday night.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass confirmed the Reiner couple’s death Sunday night.

“This is a devastating loss for our city and our country,” she wrote in a social media post. “I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have tremendous respect for him.”

Police say they were called to the home around 3:40 p.m. where they found two people dead inside.

NBC LA was the first to report the news, which was later confirmed by TMZ

ABC News reported the victims — described as a 78-year-old man and 68-year-old woman by the Los Angeles Fire Department — were stabbed to death.

The LA Times reported there was no forced entry into the home.

TMZ said firefighters were called to the home around 3:30 p.m. local time to provide medical aid. It’s unclear who called emergency responders. TMZ reported police were on scene 10 minutes later.

Reiner is long one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood, and his work includes some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s and ’90s, including “This is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride.”

His role as Meathead in the 1970s TV classic “All in the Family” alongside Carol O’Connor’s Archie Bunker catapulted him to fame.

A large police presence is at the home. No other information is known at this time.
