Cave-in shuts down lanes on Bay Street in downtown Jacksonville

Westbound Bay Street traffic is being detoured from Lafayette Street to Adams Street.

JEA crews are on site at a cave-in near a sewer main on E Bay Street near Maxwell House. They are investigating to find the cause and preparing to perform emergency repairs. (JEA)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – JEA crews are on site at a cave-in near a sewer main on 700 E. Bay St.

For the safety of crews and the public, both westbound travel lanes and one eastbound lane on Bay Street. are closed to traffic. Westbound Bay Street traffic is being detoured from Lafayette Street. to Adams Street.

Crews are investigating the damage and working to mitigate current conditions to prepare for making repairs.

Repair work is expected to continue into the evening and go into the morning. Time for repairs is subject to change.

JEA is investigating the infrastructure to identify the cause.
