The woman was shot while with someone attempting to take back their stolen vehicle, police said.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth police are investigating after a woman was fatally shot Friday morning at a motel, officials say.
According to police, officers were called at about 5:20 a.m. to a motel in the 1800 block of Jacksboro Highway. Upon arrival, police say they found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound to her stomach. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but later died from her injuries.
Police say preliminary details show the owner of a stolen vehicle found it at the motel. It reportedly hadn’t been reported stolen to the police. The owner of the vehicle and the woman with him tried to recover the vehicle, police say, but the woman ended up getting shot.
Two people with the stolen vehicle fled the scene on foot, according to police.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 37-year-old Jessica Stephanie Gonzales. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Police say information shared with police shows the stolen vehicle may have been involved in a drive-by shooting earlier that morning, but it hasn’t been confirmed to be the same vehicle.
Police say this appears to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation is ongoing.
