PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix Zoo has a new addition to its animal family and needs your help naming it!
On Nov. 16, a 12-year-old Masai giraffe named Sunshine gave birth to a daughter. The Phoenix Zoo released five potential names and wants the public to vote for its favorite.
- Cyra: means “sun” in Persian/Greek
- Tesni: means “warmth from the sun” in Welsh
- Binti: means “daughter” in Swahili
- Kasi: means “speed” in Swahili (because of her zoomies)
- Ray: like a ray of sunshine

Voting is open through midnight on Dec. 22, and the winning name will be announced on Dec. 23. You are allowed to cast one vote per day.
Although Sunshine and baby girl are still enjoying time away from the herd in the barn, the zoo hopes they will be ready to move onto the Savanna sometime in January.
