Patricia L. Brooks, founder of the Scottsdale Society of Women Writers, has won the Arizona Authors Association Literary Contest Best of Category award for her non-fiction book “Write the Memoir You’re Afraid to Write.”

Brooks now plans a Zoom discussion about the art of writing memoirs.

A publishing consultant who has written three memoirs and is a facilitator for the V. G. Piper Writing Center at Arizona State University, she will give her free lecture  10 a.m.-noon Jan. 17.

Interested people must RSVP by emailing patricia@plbrooks.com or texting 480-250-5556.

She said that “in an encouraging and insightful presentation,” she will help people “capture the essence of your untold story, share with you how to produce a memoir to your own satisfaction, face your fears, and conquer the story’s emotional beats.”

She’ll also discuss techniques from writing her own memoirs, and those she has helped other writers “take the necessary steps to bring your work to fruition.”

The workshop also includes a question-and-answer session and an activity following her presentation.

Her memoirs are available on amazon.com.

Brooks will also teach this workshop in an eight-week extended format for the Arizona State University Piper Writing Center starting starting Feb. 28 through three Saturday mornings in March, 10 a.m. to noon. Contact her for details about that series.

President and founder of Brooks Goldmann Publishing Company, LLC, she also teaches memoir writing at ASU’s Piper Writing Center.

Her books are “Sick as My Secrets,” about “a strong woman who overcame her desperate need for alcohol; “Three Husbands and a Thousand Boyfriends” about her “dangerous journey through love addiction”; and “Gifts of Sisterhood,” a tribute to her sister who died from lung cancer.
