Police, fire and ambulance were called shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday for a gunshot victim inside the Wawa at 910 MacDade Blvd. in Collingdale.

A store employee called 911 and police were told that a customer accidentally shot himself in a thigh inside the store, according to police radio traffic. Dispatch notes indicated it was a 20-year-old male.

The borough is still relying on state police for overnight coverage, and municipal officers were asked to respond to the store until troopers could get there.

According to further radio traffic:

Within a minute or two, a Darby Township officer crashed into a utility pole in the 200 block of Sharon Avenue in Sharon Hill.

Other officers arrived within moments and called in the crash. It was unclear if the township officer was involved in the response to the Wawa, though there were no other calls in progress in that sector.

The crash was described as a pole and wires with a transformer down. The officer was described as not entrapped.

The gunshot victim was taken to Lankenau Medical Center. The injured officer was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Official details were not yet available.
