SHERIDAN, Ore. — People living in Sheridan are under a boil water notice after the city’s water system lost pressure on Friday.

The city said all water service connections in the city could have potentially harmful bacteria in the water.

Everyone should boil the water (and let it cool) before drinking it, washing food or dishes, brushing their teeth or any other ways they could ingest the bacteria.

“If these bacteria are present, they could make you sick and are a particular concern for people with weakened immune systems,” the City of Sheridan said.

The notice follows a winter storm that caused flooding and power outages across much of the Western Oregon region.

The city is conducting tests for contamination in the pipelines. There’s no word on how long the advisory will last.

More from the City of Sheridan:

Customers should bring water to a rolling boil for a full one (1) minute, allow the water to cool before using, and store the cooled water in a clean container with a cover. Customers should use boiled water for:

  • Drinking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing fruits and vegetables
  • Preparing food and baby formula
  • Making ice
  • Cleaning food contact surfaces and containers
