More than a dozen injuries were reported and rail service was suspended in both directions for one line of NJ Transit after two trains made contact, according to the transit agency.
Service along the Montclair Boonton Line was halted for hours Friday evening after the trains made contact in Montclair west of Bay Street just before 7 p.m. NJ Transit said 17 people were hurt, though none of the injuries were considered life-threatening. It was not clear how many had been hurt.
NJ Transit said on its website that service had been suspended due to police activity. An investigation was ongoing, and the NTSB is set to conduct an investigation of their own as well.
Service along the same rail line was also suspended between Denville and Lincoln park due to downed trees across the tracks near Towaco. Substitute bus service was being provided, according to NJ Transit.
