A DNA hit has led to an arrest in a years-old murder case out of Arlington, police officials announced Friday.

Devin Cameron-Mack, 29, faces a capital murder charge in connection with the 2017 slaying of 25-year-old Justin Dotson. Cameron-Mack was already in custody at the Tarrant County jail on an unrelated aggravated robbery charge, and online records show his bail has been set at $1 million.

Dotson was found shot the night of Oct. 4, 2017, inside his apartment in the 2000 block of Valleywood Drive, according to police spokesman Sgt. Richard Coleman.

Dotson, who was pronounced dead at the scene, is believed to have been targeted during an attempted robbery “associated with suspected narcotics activity,” Coleman said.

During the initial investigation, investigators found a blood stain that DNA testing confirmed did not come from Dotson, Coleman said. The DNA profile was then uploaded to a national law enforcement database, but didn’t generate any matches at the time.

This November, Coleman said detectives were notified of a hit on the sample: A recently uploaded profile of Cameron-Mack.

According to Coleman, when detectives attempted to interview Cameron-Mack, he denied being involved in the murder.

However, Coleman said, an additional DNA sample from Cameron-Mack also came back as a match to the sample recovered at the crime scene.
