Curio Theatre Company will stage Hansel & Gretel as part of its Make/Partake theatre series at the Calvary Center at 48th and Baltimore in Philadelphia. The show opens on Friday. Previews happened on Wednesday and are also set for today at 6 p.m.
Kids and grown-ups can jump into the action by crafting props, generating sound effects, making shadow puppets, and even manipulating the weather conditions onstage. The show welcomes families with children three years old and older.
Paul Kuhn wrote this version. He serves as artistic director at the theatre company. Mya Flood steers the production. Philadelphia actors Maddie Gillespie, Christopher Castagna, and Aetna Gallagher bring the characters to life.
The Make/Partake series has staged Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs before. This approach pulls people directly into the story from the start.
Hansel & Gretel begins Friday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. Shows run from December 20 through 31. Showtime is 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Previews take place Dec. 17 and 18 at 6 p.m.
