Wimbledon may be the central focus of tennis at the moment, but it is not the only tournament taking place.

For players including Daniil Medvedev, Coco Gauff and Stefanos Tsitsipas, Wimbledon is already over and the next goals are already on the horizon.

That will be where the North American hard court swing comes into play, that will include the revamped US Open mixed doubles tournament that has divided opinion.

Although hard courts are the usual next step for players after Wimbledon, there are still some more grass court events on the calendar.

American billionaire businessman Bill Ackman has never played a professional tennis match in his life, but at 59 years old he has decided that now is the time to do so.

Ackman has previously spoken about his love for tennis and it has now been confirmed that he will make his ATP Tour debut on the grass courts of Newport, Rhode Island, at the ATP Challenger Tennis Hall of Fame Open.

This is where Ackman will partner former top 10 singles player and four-time doubles Grand Slam champion Jack Sock, who will also be making his return to the match court.

Sock retired from tennis at the US Open in 2023, but appears to be making a special return to the sport after receiving a wildcard to play alongside Ackman.

It will not be an easy debut for the Sock and Ackman duo, as they take on the Australian duo of the sometimes controversial Bernard Tomic and Omar Jasika.

Why is Bill Ackman not playing with Nick Kyrgios?

Ackman had previously teased his tennis debut with Nick Kyrgios, with some questioning why he is now teaming up with Sock.

Kyrgios has been dealing with a knee problem that has further set back his comeback to tennis and forced him to withdraw from Wimbledon.

This was confirmed as the reason why Kyrgios was not teaming up with Ackman in Newport in a social media post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Ackman wrote, “A tennis update. I met @NickKyrgios on @X and he proposed we play an ATP tournament together. Unfortunately, Nick got injured so our doubles hopes have been delayed, but fortunately fate intervened.

“@JackSock managed to get a wildcard into the @TennisHalloFame Hall of Fame Open in Newport Rhode Island, an @atptour Challenger and @WTA 125 event, and invited me to be his partner. I of course accepted. Doubles matches begin next Tuesday, July 8th.”
