An unexpected evacuation took place night due to the smell of natural gas coming from the rooftop
Update:
Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services attended the Station Mall on Friday night in response to the smell of natural gas coming from the rooftop area.
Spokesperson Aaron Gravelle informed SooToday on Saturday morning that “nothing of relevance was noted,” besides a “potential small leak.”
Enbridge Gas took over the scene after it was called in to investigate.
Station Mall has since been reopened to the public.
Original Story:
Staff and patrons of Station Mall were evacuated Friday evening for an unknown reason.
A staff member present during the evacuation said they and other people in the immediate area began to cough as they were told to leave and were not given time to properly close down the tills in the store.
The mall was supposed to be open until 9 p.m. under its holiday shopping hours.
Sault police and firefighters from the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services were on scene.
SooToday will have more on this story as information becomes available.
