SAN ANTONIO – A man is hospitalized and is expected to face charges after a domestic violence-related call ended with a shooting involving a San Antonio Police Department officer, according to Chief William McManus.
The shooting happened just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday near Southwest Military Drive and Interstate 35 South.
“This is a bit of a complicated story,” McManus said.
Officers were called out to a home around 2 p.m. in the 2000 block of Ann Arbor for a family violence call.
The woman told police a man was breaking the windows of her vehicle. Police said the two were in a relationship, however, it is unclear if it was ongoing.
The woman called a co-worker, who came to pick her up and they drove to their workplace, the chief said. When they arrived, the man was already there waiting.
McManus said the woman and co-worker then left the area, traveling north on I-35. The man followed them.
At the Southwest Military Drive turnaround, McManus said the man rammed the co-worker’s vehicle, and gunfire began.
McManus said there was a nearby San Antonio police officer, who returned fire at the vehicle he believed was shooting.

The officer and the coworker fired shots, McManus said, but it is unclear whether the man was also shooting.
The man, who has yet to be identified by police, was shot in his shoulder and taken to a hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time, it is unclear whose bullet struck the man, McManus said.
No other injuries were reported.
McManus said the man could face a dating violence charge, with additional charges possible.
According to a KSAT Investigates analysis, this marks at least the 14th time an SAPD officer has been involved in a shooting this year.
The investigation remains ongoing.
