The Los Angeles Rams are getting what very well might be the best season of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford’s career. However, Los Angeles suffered a brutal defeat to their divisional rivals, the Seattle Seahawks, which has changed the entire outlook of their season.

The loss knocked the Rams out of first place in the NFC, which means giving up the coveted first-round bye that comes with it. To make matters worse, the Rams would have to travel on the road in the Wild Card round as things currently stand.

It was the type of loss that Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay knows can completely derail a Super Bowl run, and now a head is rolling as a consequence, according to one prominent insider around the league.

“ESPN sources: Rams fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn. The Rams’ special teams played a role in three of the team’s four losses this season, including Thursday night’s defeat in Seattle, and now changes are being made,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday before following up with more context.

“How rare is this? This represents the first in-season coaching change that Rams head coach Sean McVay ever has had.”

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“A serious organization. The Packers would never,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Some teams demand excellence. Others accept incompetence,” another fan added.

“This needed to happen… Rams need to bring home John Fassel. Our Special Teams have been horrible almost every year since we let him go in 2020,” someone else wrote.

It’s refreshing to see a team do whatever neccesary in the pursuit of a Super Bowl rather than accept mediocrity like so many franchises seem content to do.
