PHOENIX — A daily heat record that has stood for over a century was broken on Monday, the second day in a row Phoenix has seen record-breaking heat.
The temperature hit 80 degrees at 1:59 p.m. at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, the National Weather Service (NWS) site used for the city’s official readings, breaking the previous record of 79 degrees set in 1917.
However, it may still get hotter, with a forecast high of 82 degrees for Monday.
This is now the that a new record high was set. The mercury topped out at 81 degrees at Sky Harbor on Sunday. That broke the record for that date of 79 degrees, which was set in 2024.
This would also be the second week in a row that the Valley would start the workweek with record-breaking heat.
High temperatures for this time of year are generally in the mid-60s, according to the NWS.
