PHOENIX — A man and woman are dead following an early Monday morning shooting in west Phoenix that police are investigating as a murder/suicide.
Officers responded around 3:30 a.m. to a call about a woman that had been shot and “appeared deceased” near 71st Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
When officers arrived on the scene, they were able to identify 30-year-old Selena Felix as the deceased woman. She was found dead on a roadway with “multiple gunshot wounds,” authorities said.
Those investigating the scene learned that a suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Alexis Torres, had left the area in a car.
A Phoenix officer attempted to stop Torres near 7th Avenue and Dobbins Road (about 12 miles southeast of the shooting) around 2:25 a.m. but he fled and “barricaded himself in a nearby home.”
Phoenix PD’s Special Assignments Unit then arrived at the home and, while negotiating, Torres reportedly shot himself. The unit attempted to help Torres and he was transported to a hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department but later died from his self-inflicted injury.
Further investigation revealed that a child was in Torres’ car. The child was unharmed and the Phoenix PD discovered they were taken from an Avondale home.
The Avondale Police Department is conducting its own investigation into the child abduction.
