Mirra Andreeva has once again been impressing at Wimbledon, having just stormed into the round of 16.

Andreeva reached the fourth round of Wimbledon back in 2023, before the qualifier was knocked out by Madison Keys.

Russian teenager Andreeva has been tipped to win Wimbledon, with top seed Aryna Sabalenka the only higher-ranked player remaining in the draw.

The 18-year-old has yet to drop a set at the Grand Slam, with Emma Navarro representing her next opponent.

And her latest adventure once again comes alongside Conchita Martinez, who is currently coaching the WTA number seven.

Ahead of her meeting with Navarro, Martinez shared an insight into their relationship, telling BBC Sport: “Mirra is a very special player and very complete in everything she does – but also improvable.

“I think she has a lot to learn. If I won Wimbledon – I was more of a clay-court player – then I think she has a good shot of winning.

“It took me many tries to get my game to be more comfortable on grass. But I think if Mirra does things with an open mind, and doesn’t get angry when she misses, she has a game which she can win.”

Martinez has a superb history at Wimbledon, having famously defeated Martina Navratilova to win the title in 1994.

She also boasts success as a coach, having guided Garbine Muguruza to victory over Venus Williams in 2017.

Martinez is now aiming for similar success with Andreeva, but has refuted the idea of being a coach, friend and tennis parent to the teenager.

“No, no, no,” she said. “I’m her coach – that’s the only way. Can you be friends? Yes. We have a great relationship.

“But I’m the one there on the tennis court, changing things and making her improve. I’m the one overseeing her whole career.

“I’m in charge of finding everything around her that will work to make her a better player. The relationship is good, we get along great and she respects my work.

“For me, that is super important. If I have to be hard on the court or outside of the court I will be, but then we can also laugh.

“We like to joke around, she is very playful and I think I am too – even though I am much older. The kid in me is brought out.

“I think she also enjoys that because I’m not a serious figure. I can laugh and then we go back to work. But if there is too much of the other and she starts not respecting me then that’s the end of the relationship.”

The partnership, which started last season, has certainly produced huge success so far, with Andreeva rising as high as number six in the world rankings.

She has since dropped to seventh place, but is already a two-time winner on the WTA Tour in the 2025 season.
