Manchester United fans have voted for the man of the match in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
The worst defeat Manchester United have suffered this season was the 3-0 away loss at Manchester City. It was a fair result, with City taking their chances, and United making silly mistakes at the back.
United’s 2-1 loss at Aston Villa was a little different. This was a much better performance from United, with head coach Ruben Amorim lamenting the team’s bad luck.

United had 57 per cent possession, and 15 shots to Villa’s 12, with 6 on target to their 4.
Villa were simply more clinical, with Morgan Rogers scoring two excellent goals that still felt preventable from United’s side.
Do Ruben Amorim’s comments feel familiar to you?
Which other games have United been better this season and failed to win? Is it down to Amorim, or the players?

Matheus Cunha wins most votes in post-game poll
Given the generally positive view of Manchester United’s performance, we asked our TalkingPoints readers who was the Man of the Match in the 2-1 defeat.
Two players dominated the vote, with Matheus Cunha coming out on top – for the second game in a row.
At time of publication, the voting breakdown is as follows…
- Matheus Cunha: 48 per cent
- Ayden Heaven: 27 per cent
- Mason Mount: 10 per cent
- Patrick Dorgu: 5 per cent
- All other players: 4 per cent or fewer
Matheus Cunha scored Manchester United’s goal at the end of the first half against Aston Villa to equalise.
But he will reflect that it could and should have been even more.
Cunha whizzed a curling shot narrowly wide from outside the box in the first half, with Emiliano Martinez stranded.
He then headed just wide in the second half, with United desperately chasing an equaliser.

Ayden Heaven efforts appreciated
Ayden Heaven struggled a little in Manchester United’s 4-4 draw with Bournemouth. And if either Harry Maguire or Matthijs de Ligt had been fit, he likely would have been back on the bench.
In this game, Heaven stepped up and helped to shut out Ollie Watkins, with a strong and aggressive performance.
It was a good way for the young defender to bounce back, and he will be better for it. The fact that United fans rated him as the second best player in the team, shows how his efforts were appreciated.
