North Texas is not expected to feel like a winter wonderland in time for Christmas.

For the rest of the week, highs should be in the upper 70s to low 80s each day according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, potentially breaking more weather records in the process.

The expected temperatures are over 20 degrees above normal for the end of the year, and they come with similarly warmer overnight lows in the low 60s.

Skies should be mostly sunny in the lead up to the holiday, with wind gusts around 20 miles per hour possible most days.

This unseasonably toasty pattern should end by Sunday, when a cold front should help bring back winter temperatures.

Sunday’s low of 42 degrees is still a little warmer than the 30-year average, but temperatures Monday are expected to peak at 56 degrees, exactly average for the final days of the year.

Since the weather service only forecasts seven days out, it remains to be seen if those colder temperatures will stick around for New Year’s Eve.
