Fishermen help JSO officers rescue Frenchie stranded on island in Ribault River

  • December 23, 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it took teamwork on land and water to save a soaked and shivering French bulldog last week when it got stuck on a small island in the Ribault River.

JSO said Officers Moran and Duggar responded to a call about a dog in distress near Grand Street along the Ribault River and quickly spotted the pup stranded on a small marshy island.

He was clearly cold, wet, and unable to get back on his own.

The officers immediately waved down two nearby fishermen and asked for help. Within moments, the anglers used their boat to reach the island and safely bring the Frenchie to shore.

Officers Moran and Duggar then took the dog to Animal Care & Protective Services. He didn’t have a microchip but earned a brand-new name: Porky.

JSO officers helped rescue this pup that was stranded on a marshy island in the Ribault River. His new name is Porky (Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office)

As Officer Duggar says on the bodycam video that captured the rescue, “That’s a big boy!”

ACPS told JSO that Porky is living his best life and already has a loving new family waiting for him.

“Huge thanks to those fishermen who were in the right place at the right time, our officers, and our friends at ACPS for turning a bad situation into a happy ending!” JSO said.
