Kasi is the name chosen for the recently born female giraffe.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo has a name for its recently born female giraffe: Kasi!

Kasi, in Swahili, means speed, and the zoo said she is already living up to the name.

Zoo guests will not have to wait long to see Kasi, a Masai giraffe, make her debut to the public. She is expected to be in front of the flashing cameras on the Zoo’s Savanna habitat sometime in January.

The zoo said the name Kasi won by nearly 30% of the votes.
