ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – Fatal crashes are down in both New York and Vermont.
According to new data from the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, between January and October, fatalities on Empire State roads fell from 766 in 2024 to 681 this year.
In Vermont, those numbers are also declining overall. From January to December, the state had 54 fatal crashes this year. That’s compared to 51 last year, but 62 the year before.
Deadly motorcycle crashes were also down in New York, from 157 last year to 134 this year.
Officials say while the data is encouraging, it’s still important to stay safe on the roads, especially with incoming inclement weather.
