On Christmas Eve, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will operate on a regular schedule, but be aware that there may be earlier shutdowns and larger crowds than usual. On Christmas Day, service will be modified and reduced.
Source/CTA CTA Christmas Eve Schedule
- General: Most CTA services run on a regular weekday schedule, but may end a bit earlier or experience crowding, so allow extra time.
- Rail: Blue, Red, Brown, Pink, Green, Orange lines generally follow normal weekday patterns.
- Buses: Most bus routes will run, but verify specific routes for potential early finishes.
CTA Christmas Day Schedule
- General: Expect a Sunday or holiday schedule with fewer trains and buses, especially in the evening.
- 24/7 Service: The Red Line (Howard-Jackson Park) and Blue Line (Forest Park-O’Hare) often maintain 24-hour service, even on holidays, notes the CTA website.
- Other Lines (Orange, Green, etc.): Expect reduced frequency; some may stop running overnight or have very limited daytime service.
- Buses: Many bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule or have significant reductions.
