SAN ANTONIO – Traffic at San Antonio’s airport has been steady as travelers make their way in and out of the city before the holiday.

Airports across Texas are bracing for significant traffic in the coming weeks.

“Here in Texas, it’s the second highest travel volume we’ve seen for the year-end holidays. So it’s going to be a very busy holiday season,” said Armbruster.

AAA Insurance reports that 9.4 million Texans will travel this holiday season, with more than 90% on the roadways. However, airports are also bustling with holiday travelers. The Diaz family, for instance, flew out last Christmas and again this year to visit their father, who is deployed out of state. “It was really nice. We were surprised by that… it wasn’t crazy,” the Diaz family said.

Not everyone is flying out, though. Kristen Seale is flying in to reunite with family after years apart. “It was great. Low crowds. Got through TSA in 15 minutes. No complaints at all… We’re gonna make cookies. You know? We’re gonna do Santa Claus. It’s the first time we’ve been together probably 30 years. So I’m really excited to be here,” Seale said.

AAA reminds travelers to be cautious and plan ahead. Matt Roy shared his experience, saying, “We came a little early today, just in case… But I don’t expect anything as pertains to the holiday.”

Airport workers expect foot traffic to decrease later tonight and tomorrow, but anticipate a surge as people return home.
