A rattlesnake was not spotted at Wahkeena Falls

A story KATU wrote on June 29 about a “rattlesnake” spotted at Wahkeena Falls was inaccurate.

The hiker interviewed, identified as Ellis, stated that his rattlesnake encounter occurred at another, unspecified high-altitude location.

“We came across a rattlesnake. So it was on the path, it was blocking our descent. So that’s another thing too, it is in the drier climate. Expect to find something like that, and do your research too, to know what, if the rattlesnakes are in that area,” Ellis said.

Our report mistakenly attributed that encounter to Wahkeena Falls.
