The Dallas Cowboys offense came out hot against the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day, but ended up surviving an NFC East dog fight by the end of the game.
An 18-point advantage in the first half turned into a one-possession victory for Dallas, who topped Washington on the road, 30-23, to improve the Cowboys’ record to 7-8-1 on the season.
The Netflix extravaganza also featured some in-game interviews with Emmitt Smith and Clinton Portis, former star running backs of each team, but those were met with mixed reviews by those watching the broadcast.
Here’s some more reaction from around social media after the Cowboys’ Christmas victory:
Cowboys
FINAL | Things become a little iffy down the stretch, but the Cowboys hold on to beat the Commanders 30-23. The Cowboys still have a shot at avoiding a losing season.
They’re also 4-1 in the NFC East with the finale against the Giants on deck.

With that four-yard rushing touchdown, Javonte Williams now has 13 total touchdowns in 2025 (11 rushing, 2 receiving. The last Cowboys running back with at least 13 total touchdowns in a season was Ezekiel Elliott (14) in 2019.

Game is so meaningless we have Emmitt Smith talking about his kids in college for 25 minutes lmao

Why are they interviewing Emmitt Smith for the entire drive?….

This interview with Clinton Portis is a disaster for Netflix.

This offense better figure it out. There’s only so much I can be sold about “culture”

The fact that the Cowboys’ offense has only punted once and we have 9 mins left in the third quarter, and it’s a one-score game tells you all you need to know about this defense.

Yearly reminder that MLB needs to find a way to capitalize on July 4th the same way the NFL and NBA do Thanksgiving and Christmas

For a meaningless game, this has been a fun one to watch. Both these teams have reason to be excited about 2026.
