A man in his 20s was shot during an altercation with several people on a Metro bus in South Los Angeles and the shooter is still on the loose, police said Thursday.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded at 1:58 p.m. Thursday to reports of a shooting near a Metro bus stop at Normandie Avenue and West 39th Street, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

During the altercation near Metro Bus 206, one person from the group fired a weapon, striking the victim.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene, where they pronounced the victim dead, police said.

The unidentified suspects ran away from the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.

“Metro extends its condolences to the victim’s family,” Metro media relations communications director Jose Ubaldo told City News Service.
