NEW YORK (PIX11) — Dry, powdery snow is expected to blanket the New York region on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm warning has been issued for New York City, New Jersey, Nassau County, Suffolk County, and even counties in Connecticut, according to a storm alert issued Thursday.

For travelers in the tristate region, New York Governor Kathy Hochul is urging caution ahead of snow expected to pound the state, her office announced Wednesday. Road conditions are expected to be slippery, with hazardous conditions affecting traffic, according to the NWS.

Starting Friday afternoon, there is a 99% chance of snow, with at least 7 inches expected to hit the five boroughs, according to a probabilistic winter weather forecast.

Friday morning: Expected to be partly sunny, with clouds forming.

Friday afternoon: Snow is expected to hit the area after 4 p.m. Wind chill values are expected to be between 15 and 25.

Rain could also be in the cards for the city, according to the seven-day forecast.

Friday night: This will be the star of the show; snow will be heavy at times. The low is expected to reach 28 degrees. Snowfall is expected to range from 4 to 8 inches.

Saturday morning: Snow is likely to return, mainly before 1 pm. The chance of precipitation is 60%. Another inch of snow is expected to accumulate, according to the NWS.

Saturday night: Cloudy, with temperatures in the 20s.

Sunday into Monday: More rain is likely to pound the region most of Sunday into Monday morning.

The New York region will finally catch a break Tuesday morning, as skies are expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 33, according to the NWS.
