PHOENIX (AZFamily) — With gifts unwrapped and the holidays coming to an end, Christmas clean-up is now well underway.
Officials say dried-out Christmas trees can pose serious fire risks, especially if they still have lights hanging on them. And if dry Christmas trees catch fire, the flames move quickly.
Each year, fire departments across the United States respond to an average of 155 house fires caused by Christmas trees.
While these types of fires aren’t a common cause of house fires, firefighters say they are one of the easiest to prevent.
Authorities recommend removing and recycling the trees as soon as the holiday is over.
You can recycle your used tree at several approved tree disposal locations across the Valley. The City of Phoenix Public Works Department has multiple approved sites to take your tree for recycling.
