SAN ANTONIO – A suspect is behind bars after fleeing police on foot after a major DWI crash, all while holding an injured child.
Around 8:05 p.m. on Christmas Eve, police officers were on the access road of State Highway 151 when they saw a vehicle lose control and crash into an electrical pole.
Police say that as officers approached the site of the crash, the suspect was observed removing a child from the vehicle and running from the officers.
In an effort to avoid arrest, police say the suspect fled across the main lanes of Hwy 151 holding the child.
Officers quickly moved to the other side of the highway and located the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Robert Salas, as well as the child.
Police quickly took the suspect into custody and evaluated the child, who has susptained minorinjuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
