HOUSTON (WAFB) – The LSU Tigers are preparing to take on the University of Houston Cougars during the Texas Bowl.
Kickoff for the game is at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, December 27. Fans who did not make the trip to Houston can watch the action on ESPN.
According to the LSU athletics department, the game will mark the Tigers’ 25th bowl game/playoff appearance in 26 years. The streak dates back to an appearance during the Peach Bowl in 2000.
The Tigers also went to the Texas Bowl last year and claimed a 42-30 victory over Baylor. Interim LSU football head coach Frank Wilson said his team is ready to get another win this year.
“Excited about the opportunity to play a 9-3 Big 12 opponent,” Coach Wilson said. “Like it from a geographical standpoint and our ability to travel for the families of our student-athletes as well as the fans of our program.”
At this time, LSU has an overall record of 7-5. Houston’s overall record is 9-3. The two teams have taken on each other three times previously, with LSU leading the overall series.
According to LSU, the athletic department’s ticket allotment for the game is sold out.
The bowl game will take place weeks after LSU hired away new head coach Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss. Coach Kiffin has already assembled a coaching staff.
