Historic Southside was back on the agenda at the Fort Worth Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission.
Several cases in the neighborhood made the commission’s Dec. 8 meeting agenda.
HCLC-25-301: 936 E. Annie St.
- The applicant requested approval for a certificate of appropriateness to construct a new residence. The commission approved a certificate for this address in January 2025, but ownership changed, prompting a new application.
- Staff said the proposed design is largely compatible with standards, but they took issue with the driveway not aligning with the existing approach and not meeting minimum width requirements, inconsistent steps on the raised porch, and not enough windows on the east elevation.
- Staff recommended approval with conditions: more east side windows; reconstruction of the driveway approach; and submission of all drawing adjustments to the staff prior to issuance of the certificate of appropriateness.
- The motion to approve, with staff recommendations, passed 8-0.
HCLC-25-300: 1404 E. Cannon St.
The applicant requested a certificate of appropriateness to construct a new residence and garage. The proposed design was generally consistent with the streetscape.
- Staff recommended approval with conditions: siding material on the front elevation to be Hardie with a six-inch reveal; front porch to have a minimum depth of six feet and the front door to be simplified; all windows to feature a two-to-one height-to-width ratio; and submission of all drawing adjustments to the city staff prior to issuance of the certificate of appropriateness.
- The motion to approve, with staff recommendations, passed 8-0.
HCLC-25-303: 1500 E. Cannon St.
The applicant requested a certificate of appropriateness to construct a new residence. The proposed design was generally consistent with the streetscape.
- Staff recommended approval with conditions: all windows to feature a two-to-one height-to-width ratio; and submission of all drawing adjustments to the city staff prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy.
- The motion to approve with the stated conditions passed 8-0.
HCLC-25-287: 1633 E. Terrell Ave.
The applicant requested a certificate of occupancy to construct a new residence. Staff noted that the front building setback needed to be brought forward to align with existing structures. Staff also specified requirements for siding material, porch depth and posts, front door design and window types and ratios.
- Staff recommended approval with conditions: front building setback brought forward to align with contributing structures; siding material on all four elevations to be Hardie with a 6-inch reveal; front porch to have a minimum depth of 6 feet, including porch posts measuring at least 6-by-6 inches, and the front door to be simplified; all windows to maintain a two-to-one height-to-width ratio and be limited to two sizes; and submission of all drawing adjustments to the city staff prior to issuance of a certificate of appropriateness.
- The motion to approve with the specified conditions passed 8-0.
HCLC-25-288: 1637 E. Terrell St.
- The applicant requested a certificate of appropriateness to construct a new residence, located next to the previous application. The proposed design was generally consistent with the streetscape.
- Staff recommended approval with conditions: front building setback brought forward to align with contributing structures; siding material on all four elevations to be Hardie board siding only with a six-inch reveal; front porch to have a minimum depth of six feet and the front door to be simplified; and submission of all drawing adjustments to the city staff prior to issuance of a certificate of appropriateness.
- The motion to approve with the specified conditions passed 8-0.
