Man accused of stealing power tools from 15 Home Depots across Phoenix-area

  • December 28, 2025

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man is accused of stealing power tools from over a dozen Home Depot locations across the Valley and selling them online.

Jordan Morrell, 31, was identified as the suspect and taken into custody on Friday by Scottsdale police.

Police began the investigation on Dec. 7 after Home Depot’s corporate loss prevention team reported a string of shoplifting cases. Those incidents included 15 Home Depot locations across Maricopa County, including Scottsdale, Chandler, Mesa, Surprise and Tempe.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, surveillance video, vehicle details and information pertaining to the online sales linked Morrell to the alleged crimes.

Officers then got a warrant to review and track his online activity.

On Friday, the lead detective stopped Morrell near Mill Avenue and Ellis Drive in Tempe and arrested him on multiple counts of shoplifting and organized retail theft.

Scottsdale police were able to take Morrell into custody in connection with all the incidents because they are certified through AZPOST, meaning they can make arrests on Scottsdale cases in other cities.
