The Chula Vista Police Department responded to a call of a male who had been shot near the 600 block of E Street early Sunday morning at 1:40 a.m., according to a press release from the department.
At the scene, officers discovered a 31-year-old man from San Diego suffering from gunshot wounds.
His identity has not been released, but authorities say he was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
It is unknown what led up to the shooting.
Investigators are trying to locate witnesses who might be able to offer more information on the incident.
