Summertime Swap, a free family book swap event, will be held at the Pacific Highlands Ranch Library on Saturday, July 19, celebrating literacy, access, and building community connections.
Designed to help families clean up and refresh their home bookshelves, participants are encouraged to bring up to 10 gently used books per family member and discover new favorites to take home. Swapping hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
At noon, the library will host a storytime with authors Melissa Prince Barry (“A Family Full of Love”), Lisa Cortez (“The Adventures of Marie and LeeLee”), and Dr. Jocelyn “Joy” Francisco (“Laab You More”). Family fun strategist Jenn Morales from Explore to Nap (@exploretonap on Instagram) will lead crafts and activities for kids, including a library-themed scavenger hunt. A free raffle will also be held.
Swappers are asked to bring gently used books suitable for all ages, ensuring they have no excessive markings or torn pages. No activity books, textbooks or coloring books.
The library is located at 12911 Pacific Place, Carmel Valley.
Starting July 1, the library is now closed on Mondays as San Diego library hours changed with the newly approved city budget, which closed all libraries on Sundays and the majority on Mondays to help address the deficit. The Pacific Highlands Ranch location was never open on Sundays; however, the Carmel Valley branch will be impacted. Carmel Valley is among the 16 libraries in the city that will remain open on Mondays.
