AUSTIN, Texas — Austin has snatched back the title of fourth most populous Texas city from Fort Worth after two years.
According to the Texas Demographic Center’s 2024 Population Estimates report, Austin’s January 2025 population estimate was 1,054,007 — a slight increase from the July 2024 estimate of 1,033,097.
Fort Worth’s January 2025 population estimate grew to 1,030,987 from 1,009,064 in July 2024.
The overtaking comes even though Fort Worth had a percent change of 11.1% between 2020 to 2025, while Austin only had a percent change of 9.6% for those years. Still, it was an increase from Austin’s 2020 to 2024 percent change of 7.4%.
Houston stands as the most populous Texas city with a January 2025 estimate of 2,383,293. San Antonio follows with an estimate of 1,554,626 and Dallas takes third with an estimate of 1,338,750.
