Police in Jacksonville searching for suspects involved in holiday shooting

  • December 30, 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) – A shooting in Jacksonville on Christmas Eve hurt four people at the Hickory Run Apartments on Lynn Drive SE.

Jacksonville Police Chief Marcus Wood said this type of behavior will not be tolerated in his city and said the shooters will be found.

“Gun violence for me, it all comes down to the person versus the weapon. That’s always the big controversial thought is saying that guns kill people, but it’s people that kill people,” said Gannon Womack.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, someone opened fire during a party inside a community room at the Hickory Run Apartments. Four people are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

“There was a fight that started inside of the building that spilled over outside which eventually led to multiple individuals firing guns. I would say over a hundred people scattered, a bunch of vehicles leaving the area,” said Wood.

Chief Wood says the party was authorized by the apartment managers who allowed some of the neighbors to rent the room. He says the victims at the party were from out of town. He also believes the shooters were from out of town.

“Our investigators have been working this thing like I said from Christmas Eve, even some on Christmas Day, so they’ve been working very, very hard to try to bring those individuals who came to Jacksonville to cause these kind of issues,” said Wood.

Tired of the recent violence in the city, neighbor Gannon Womack said people need to understand actions have consequences.

“People need to just read and pay attention and know that the acts of when you pull the trigger because the moment you put your hands on it, you have to know the responsibility that carries with that,” said Womack.

Chief Wood said all but one of the victims had surgery and was released. He said if you have any information about this shooting to call the Jacksonville Police Department or CrimeStoppers. You can remain anonymous.
