San Diego County is in for a wild weather week, continuing with warm, gusty Santa Ana winds and ending with rain and mountain snow as the new year rolls in.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory through 1 p.m. Tuesday for San Diego County mountains and wind-prone valleys, urging caution for residents and travelers with potential gusts of 55 to 60 mph.

The NWS said Tuesday will likely be the warmest day, with highs forecast to reach 76 near the coast, 77 inland, 76 to 79 in the western valleys, 68 to 73 near the foothills, 56 to 66 in the mountains and 71 to 74 in the deserts.

Relative humidity may dip into the teens in some inland areas Tuesday afternoon, but recent rainfall has eased fire concerns, according to the weather agency.

Rain is expected to begin Wednesday and continue through Saturday, with possible totals ranging from about half an inch to 1.6 inches in the county’s mountains and 0.6 to 1.2 inches along the coast.

Snow levels are forecast to fall to around 6,500 feet by Sunday, though lower-elevation snowfall will likely be minimal, the NWS said.
