PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A serious crash involving the Valley Metro light rail is blocking roads and rail service in central Phoenix early Tuesday morning.
First responders were called to the reported crash on the light rail tracks near the intersection of Central Avenue and Indian School Road around 5 a.m.
The Phoenix Fire Department said one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Six other people were involved in the crash, Phoenix Fire said. Two of those people were hospitalized in critical condition, two were hospitalized with minor injuries, and two others did not require hospitalization.
It’s unclear which of the people were in the vehicle and which were passengers or operators on the light rail.
The light rail car could be seen derailed from the tracks, along with a heavily damaged white truck.
No information is yet available on what led to the crash. Arizona’s Family is working to find more information.
Valley Metro said due to this crash, B line trains cannot travel between the Central Ave/Camelback and Thomas/Central Ave stations. They advised riders to use bus route 0 to travel between these stations.
The intersection of Central Avenue and Indian School Road is blocked in all directions due to this crash.
