Both suspects face one count of aggravated assault, and are due back in court in March

Two women are facing aggravated assault charges after a violent altercation last night in the east end.

At around 6:40 p.m., someone phoned 911 to report an altercation at a multi-unit residence building in the 100 block of Cambridge Place.

Police say a person was repeatedly punched and kicked by two women known to them.

“The victim sustained serious physical injuries and was transported to hospital,” says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Deborah Edwards, 67, and 30-year-old Cherise Johns are charged with one count each of aggravated assault.

Both were released on undertakings and are scheduled back in court on March 2, 2026.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and both women are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
