DART will temporarily close one of its Downtown Dallas stations — likely for more than three years. Here’s when it will close, and the detours being put in place.
DALLAS — Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is gearing up to temporarily close one of its Downtown Dallas stations — and it isn’t likely to reopen for more than three and a half years.
Back in August, DART first announced its plans to close the Convention Center Station at South Lamar Street and Memorial Drive as construction and redevelopment of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center gets underway. At the time, the transit agency did not specify when the temporary closure would come.
Earlier this month, DART revealed that the closure will now begin on January 5.
“DART is coordinating with the city to minimize impact on riders,” the agency said in a press release.
Here’s what you need to know about how this change could affect your commute.
Rail Detours
DART rail riders who used the Convention Center Station stop previously will now be directed to the nearby Cedars Station (at Belleview and Wall Street) or the EBJ Union Station (off Houston Street between Wood and Young streets).
Bus Detours
Bus routes 28 and 106 will continue regular service outside of Downtown. But, while headed inbound within Downtown, instead of taking Lamar to the Convention Center, the bus will now turn left on Young Street, right on Akard Street and then right on Marilla Street, where the Akard and Marilla bus stop is. When headed outbound, routes 28 and 106 will turn left on Young Street, and right on Lamar Street, then continue on their regular route, according to a press release on the matter.
Route 224 will now turn at Houston and Commerce streets and stop at the Central Business District East Transfer Center at 330 N. Olive Street, which is near the Pearl/Arts District Station, according to DART’s website.
Route 383 will arrive at and depart from the Central Business District East Transfer Center. That route will be discontinued on Feb. 2, 2026, and riders can take Route 224 instead to get Downtown. Riders can take the train to the Pearl/Arts District Station at 2200 Bryan Street and then walk to the Central Business District East Transfer Center, DART suggests.
DART will also implement a new GoLink Zone for Convention Center Station riders that will only serve trips originating at EBJ Union Station, Cedars Station, or the substitute bus layover location on Akard and Marilla and ending at one of those locations. The service will operate seven days per week, from 5 a.m. to midnight, according to DART.
