Vancouver police say they are investigating the sudden death of a 16-year-old girl who was reported missing in North Vancouver.
Police say they were called to a home near East Pender and Renfrew streets shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, where officers found the deceased teen.
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) told CBC News that they conducted a door-to-door search in the neighbourhood Monday night after the teen’s cellphone had pinged in the area.
Police say they often use cellphone pings to help locate people in emergency situations.
“Cell tower data helps provide a radius of where a person’s phone might be, however, it does not provide exact locations,” VPD spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison told CBC News.
The teen was found after someone called 911 on Tuesday.
Police say they don’t know the cause of her death and investigators are working to determine if it was the result of a crime.
She had been reported missing Monday night, police said, and her disappearance was being investigated by North Vancouver RCMP.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the VPD’s major crime investigators.
