Drivers in Coronado were confronted on Wednesday by a traffic-diverting sinkhole in the heart of their island city.
The relatively small sinkhole opened up around 9:20 a.m. near the intersection of Orange and Fourth avenues.
Local officers diverted traffic to a block around the sinkhole, which blocked the No. 2 lane on Fourth Avenue, adjoining Coronado’s main drag.
According to one report, the hole is about 5 feet deep and was caused by a broken water main. It’s not known at this time if any local customers are without water service.
City officials have yet provided a timeline for the reopening of Orange Avenue. However, nearly a half-dozen workers were seen on-site by 10 a.m.
