According to police, the victim was shot during a confrontation with security at an auto shop.

FORT WORTH, Texas — One suspect has been arrested and charged with the killing of a woman found fatally shot on New Year’s Day, police said.

According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers were called to an auto shop in the 2600 block of South Riverside Drive about a shooting.

Upon arrival, police say officers found the victim with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to her chest. Medical personnel tried to save her, officials said, but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, who police say worked as security at the location, was arrested. Police say detectives found he had reportedly told the victim she needed to leave the location, and she began arguing with him.

The victim reportedly advanced toward the suspect, who then pepper-sprayed him, police said.

Police said the victim then reportedly grabbed a “stabbing weapon” from nearby and moved toward the suspect, who then shot his sidearm, striking her.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
