Re “Padres, associates pull out of Tailgate Park redevelopment” (Dec. 23): Some years ago before this deal was made, I wrote a letter suggesting that this property be turned into a large center for the homeless. And now the opportunity is here again. The entire site should be populated with multistory, prefab buildings and converted storage containers, a large number of portable toilets and showers, and a processing center to provide clothing, food, counseling, etc. But most of all, this property should be a place where the unhoused can be accommodated — hundreds of them. Since the city owns the property, the permitting process could be more streamlined than usual.  Supposedly there have been many millions of dollars thrown at the homeless “problem.” Here’s an opportunity to do something with those dollars, and get some quick results!
