Some New Year’s resolutions — promise, we don’t mean you — don’t even make it out of January.

But you can’t fail on them if you don’t make them. So we’re here to help out the Yankees in making resolutions for 2026 as they try to end a 17-year title drought, and given that they do not report to spring training until February, here’s hoping they at least last a little longer than normal.

Hal Steinbrenner: Open the wallet or open the books

I know, I know. Easy for me to say, given that it is not my money. And perhaps the Yankees owner has a point when he says it should not take a $300 million payroll to win a championship. But given the contracts already on the books, including another dead one (DJ LeMahieu’s $15 million), and the Yankees already projected to be at $286.5 million for luxury tax purposes, this situation calls for more.
