St. John's Man Charged with Firearms Trafficking

A 41-year-old man has been charged with firearms trafficking following a police operation on Barachois Street in St. John’s on New Year’s Day.

RNC with the help of the RCMP and the tactical squad responded to a firearms-related complaint around 10:00 yesterday morning.

The man inside the home was arrested without incident, and a search of the property resulted in the seizure of a firearm, stun gun, soft body armour and brass knuckles.

Stephen Ash was charged with, among other things, trafficking in weapons.

He was held in custody pending a court appearance.

The charges against Stephen Ash include:

  •  Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  •  Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  •  Careless Use/Storage of a Firearm
  •  Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  •  Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
  •  Breach of a Firearm Prohibition Order
  •  Trafficking in Weapons
  •  Breach of Probation
