Staten Island residents can expect continued cold temperatures through the weekend with highs only reaching the upper 20s to low 30s degrees on Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

A weak clipper system will bring a chance of light snow Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Friday will see gusty westerly winds into early evening with decreasing cloud cover after midnight. Temperatures will drop to the lower 20s degrees overnight. Saturday will start with some morning sunshine before clouds increase later in the day as the clipper system approaches.

The National Weather Service indicates that Saturday night into Sunday morning will bring a period of light snow or snow showers to the area, with a dusting of accumulation possible. The best chance for snow will be late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, with the system moving offshore by Sunday morning.

Sunday will remain cold with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s degrees and gusty northwest winds following the clipper system’s passage. Skies will gradually clear Sunday night with temperatures dropping into the teens.

A warming trend is expected to begin mid-week, according to forecasters. Monday could see a slight chance of light snow across northern sections during the afternoon and evening. By Tuesday, temperatures will moderate further with a chance of light rain Tuesday evening and night.

The warmest period appears to be Thursday into Friday when temperatures may climb above average for early January, potentially reaching 50 degrees across portions of the region by Friday.

The full moon on Saturday morning brings potential for brief and localized minor coastal flooding for typically vulnerable south shore areas of New York City.
