One woman and three dogs are dead after a fire broke out at a home on New Year’s Eve, the Fort Worth Fire Department said in a statement.

Fire officials responded to reports of a fire in the 4600 block of Shackleford Street around 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday. Officials were told there were two people trapped inside the house, the statement said.

Once there, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from a one-story house and began trying to contain and extinguish the flames.

Firefighters were able to locate a woman inside the home and pull her out of the building, according to the statement. Emergency medical care was administered to her immediately, and CareFlite was put on standby for other potential patients.

The woman, who remains unidentified, was transported to a hospital, where she later died.

Crews returned to the house to search for the second resident and were able to locate him, unharmed, on another part of the property. Firefighters found three dogs inside the home but were unable to save them, the statement said.

The fire was under control within 15 minutes of the department’s response.

No further details about the cause of the fire were immediately available.
